Many people nowadays are accustomed to booking the various components of their holiday - flights, accommodation and so on - directly over the internet. However this is probably not a good idea in Africa, where internal flights and local ground transport need to be arranged, in addition to a possibly quite complex itinerary involving a number of accommodation providers. BotswanaAway pledges that, if booking through us, the cost that you will pay is no more than it would have been if you had indeed booked each element directly with the provider concerned - we derive our income solely from the conventional agents' commission that is made available to us.
How much will a Safari in Botswana cost me?
We are constantly striving to find good quality accommodation at reasonable prices in Botswana. It is not always an easy job! Because of the nature of the Botswana private concession structure, the few lodges that exist have something of a monopoly on tourism, and charge accordingly. The Botswana government has always eschewed mass tourism, preferring to keep Botswana Parks and reserves as exclusive as possible. While this is great for keeping the standards high and the numbers down, it means a safari in Botswana is considerably more costly than visiting Tanzania or Zambia. Typical lodge prices in the Okavango Delta or Linyanti area are around $800 per person per night, and the cost of travelling from camp to camp (normally via charter plane) also has to be factored in, so for a 10 night safari visiting the more popular areas in high season you should be looking to budget £5 - £6,000 per person, plus international flights. You can make SUBSTANTIAL savings by travelling at off-peak times, but do plan with care as some areas are far from their best during the wet season.
